Red and White Project

 Red and White Project

Tig and I will become the Baroness and Baron of Politarchopolis in March 2023.

We have decide to go with a red and white theme, which will involve a few projects, for garb and armour.

This page is for planning my gear.

Garb:

Factors heat and sizing.
Heat: I had glandular fever and had a great temperature reset and cannot handle extremes of temperature as much as  most people. Cold is easy, as I can always put on more clothes and cloaks. Cooler is a problem, as there is a minimum amount of clothing to maintain decorum.
Sizing: My arms, head, upper chest and legs are acceptable, but I do not like my stomach and prefer to not display my groin. This means that I tend to garb before about 1400 as the skirt line is around mid thigh, I don't like it raising any further.

Super Hot Australian Summer

Roman: I have an experimental armless tunic, and took Miesje's advice than Romans wear shorts, but they are much tighter to the leg than modern shorts.

Tunic: 2 x Red copy of my current tan linen tunic.

Pants: Pull apart the blue tight pants and make three copies in maybe grey linen?

Sandals : Order a pair of Roman sandals Caligae

Socks: Grey light cotton socks

Belt: Re-make the thick/thin belt I gifted to Niall for me

Headwear: None, a head cap, or a straw hat

Fake Warm late period shirt

I like the look of the puffed long vest and linen shirts, I want a linen coloured vest with attached sleeves that looks like

Warm to Cool Weather Garb

1350-1400

Gown: I have ordered the linen G63 gown from Historic Enterprises.

Shirt: Basic shirts I already own

Tights: I have ordered multiple red and white tights from SNAG

Shoes: I will use my black short boots, I should re-sole my long black boots.

Headwear: White arming cap, or (Mistress Rowan project! Woohoo! Details post the consult!)

Belt: I have ordered parts from Armour and Castings to re-make Chris Strusz's Griffon belt in white and silver. Chris has graciously agreed to make the belt when I supply the castings and white belt blank.

Scabbard: Eventually I will want to make a scabbard for at least one of my swords, with fittings to this griffon belt.

Pouches: Most of my pouches fit this time.

Cold Weather garb:

Houppelande: Ben, Karolina and Flick discussed making me a Houppelande. Woohoo! Apparently I will be standing hands high and belting things. Details when I have them!

Armour

1350/ 14th C attempt

Helmet: Currently helm until the Bascinet is up

Unders: Heat shirt and lendenier. Chausses tied to lendenier. Red and white jack

Body armour: Red and white coat of plates. Include heraldry

Arm armour: standard current arms until I update to attached plate over mail

Leg armour: standard current arms until I update to attached plate over mail

Mail

Spring War 2023

 Spring War 2023

The last few months since I have been apprenticed have been quite quiet. I spent a significant amount of time moving my workshop, and as such I did not make during this time, and I got the plague while visiting my master. We did progress ourselves on the art of swordsmanship in a five person class.

In preparation for Spring war I made and adjusted multiple pieces of my own clothing. I also made multiple cloth lendeniers (laced belts to hold up chausses and leg armour. At Spring War the Baron St Florian's suspension belt broke and I gave him one of mine. He used it. He commented that it sat a little low, but otherwise got him through the Afternoon war scenarios and he will comment on it later.

I also did personal armour corrections and adjustments.

Sunday afternoon I was asked to volunteer to knead bread under instruction of Isolde of Mordenvale, and the later cooked Pita bread for the whole event while Isolde rolled it. It was well received and many came back for multiple pieces.

 April 2022

Attended the Bjornhird 'make things in camp' and started making a tool roll for my leatherworking gear.
-=-
Many discussions on armouring, covering period practice/ fitness to wear/ modern polymers for the unffit to wear/ polishing period pracftice and polishing modern practice.
-=-
Decide to give up my ANCA studio and reconstruct the studio at home. Rent is killing me, and getting a lovely tax cheque and dropping the whole thing into studio rent was depressing. I need to recognise my health is not that of a 25 year old, and the commitment to do the work to make profit enough to cover rent is not realistic, and my hatred of driving and loosing 30 minutes per visit driving is annoying. I will be spending my spare making time re-designing the shed to have a large sound lowering area, and moving my tools, and building storage areas. Hopefully this will allow me to have more armour output by Spring.

His Best and Worst Apprentice

 His Best and Worst Apprentice

At Rowany Festival, Master James Douglas became Master Master James Douglas as he was admitted into the order of the Laurel. Master James' major art is brewing.

Two days later I approached him and asked if I could be his first, best, and worst apprentice. Master Master James graciously agreed.

I hope to journal my works as his apprentice here.

My primary art is armouring, however I do work in all the associated arts around armouring, and I wish to major in medieval frobishing (polishing). As you can see by this journal I have my letters, and write a single script, which shows interest in calligraphy.

It is my hope that I am not beaten too harshly or often by my new master.
